Steven Leibowitz, M.D., is an internationally recognized oculoplastic surgeon and Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, bringing unparalleled expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery to patients across the Western United States. Dr. Leibowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Theoretical Mathematics from Brandeis University in 1975, graduating Magna Cum Laude with departmental honors in chemistry. He completed his medical degree at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1979, followed by an internship and medical residency at Stanford University Medical Center. His formal training in ophthalmology was completed at the prestigious Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard University, where he earned his residency credentials and subsequently completed a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery—board-certified training that established the foundation for his distinguished career. Since 1985, Dr. Leibowitz has maintained a thriving private practice while serving as an attending surgeon and educator at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute, where he was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor in 2016. He is a distinguished member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, and numerous other prestigious professional organizations. His expertise extends internationally through his membership in the Asia Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. A noted authority on thyroid eye disease, Dr. Leibowitz has treated hundreds of patients with advanced therapies and serves as a principal investigator for multiple clinical studies on emerging treatments. He is recognized nationally as the leading prescriber of Tepezza for thyroid eye disease management. Additionally, Dr. Leibowitz instructs advanced orbital surgeons from around the world through his teaching role at the Jules Stein Eye Institute Masters' Orbit Surgery Course. With practice locations in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Bakersfield, Dr. Leibowitz remains dedicated to delivering exceptional surgical outcomes while advancing the field through education, research, and mentorship of the next generation of oculoplastic surgeons.
